Go-Go

The history of Go-Go takes its origins in the 1960s, when the women in the Peppermint Lounge in new York city stood on the tables and began to dance the twist. After that, on June 19, 1964, Carol doda first performed the go-go dance at the Condor club on the corner of Broadway and Columbus in San Francisco. She became the world's most famous go-go dancer, dancing at the Condor club for 22 years of her life. After that, in 1965, the first American disco Whisky a Go Go was opened in Hollywood. To the ceiling of the dance were suspended cells in which the girls danced in short skirts. Owners of bars began to hire dancers to attract men who, having seen dancing beauties, quite often became regulars of institutions.

In the early 1980s, go-go dancers became popular in new York night clubs. The impetus this gave the music of Madonna. Madonna began to shoot go-go dancers in their videos. In the late 1990s, they became popular in clubs around the world.

Etymology

The term go-go comes from the name of the Parisian dance cafe Whisky à Gogo, which, in turn, is named after the French expression à gogo (in abundance, in abundance)[2], derived from the old French word la gogue (joy, happiness)[3].

The term go-go was brought to Tokyo bars in the 1960s. It was less popular until most of the clubs were closed, entertaining visitors with burlesque shows and Striptease. Such bars have become to call go-go bars, and working there dancers-go-go dancers (persistent. go-go dancer). During the Vietnam war, many go-go's appeared in Saigon bars (South Vietnam): they entertained the us military. In Vietnam for go-go dancers used the phrase "table dancer" (table dancer).

Gay go-go dancers

In the period between 1965 and 1968, homosexual in many of the clubs were men — dancers go-go: they were called the "guys a go-go" (eng. go-go boys). Some gay clubs held go-go dancers until 1988, when they became popular again in gay clubs (and remain popular to this day). [4]

Dance show

Go-go dancers can be hired to perform in Nightclubs, parties, festivals, circus shows or rave discos. These dancers are called "dancers on the show" (eng. performance dancers[5]). They perform in bright luminous suits and with chemoluminescent accessories, such as toy laser guns. Dances can also be performed with animals (e.g. snakes). In the early to mid-1980s, dancer John Sex (John Sex), dancing with a Python, played a major role in the popularization of dancing go-go in night clubs for gay and bisexual men, speaking with his partner Sebastian Kwok (Kwok Sebastian).
